Pleasant Valley administrator to leave district

A top administrator in Camarillo's Pleasant Valley School District announced her resignation this week.

Assistant Superintendent Barbara Davis, who came to the K-8 district in August 2005, plans to take a position in the Moreno Valley Unified School District. Her last day at Pleasant Valley will be Sept. 7.

"It's a huge loss for the district," said interim Superintendent Luis Villegas, who was hired in July.

He said Davis has done a great job of putting key people in place to keep everything running well, and the district plans to start searching for a new assistant superintendent.

Davis plans to begin her job as assistant superintendent in Moreno Valley on Sept. 10, according to her resignation letter. She wrote that she was eager to return to the challenges high schools present and was ready to use her organizational skills in a much larger district.

Pleasant Valley has about 6,700 students compared to Moreno Valley Unified's nearly 40,000.

Davis' departure marks the third major change in Pleasant Valley's top administration in the past year.

Interim superintendent Ken Moffett resigned and left the district in May, after a months-long struggle with parents over school closures. Davis was appointed as acting superintendent until Villegas was hired.

Moffett took over for former Superintendent Thomas Dase, who left less than a month after the 2006-07 school year started. He took a superintendent's position in San Jose, and had served at Pleasant Valley since January 2004.

Cathy Carlson from TO here: Update from Conejo--former CVUSD Supt, Dr. Robert (Bob) Fraisse, quit his job at CLU as the head of the Doctoral Program in the Ed Dept, and is now the Supt in Laguna Beach Unified School District in Orange County. Interesting that he took a pay cut. I understand the job pays $110,000 a year. Did he sell his house in Dos Vientos right before the crash at Amgen??

I say don't replace any "top administrator". Give the money to the Teachers and Students. Who even new Davis and what did she do, further more who cares?

Davis spent the majority of her time following the Cape people around trying to derail their plans, after her organization pulled their school out from under them. I'm sure she will be missed - by those that programmed her.

Cathy Carlson from TO here: Why were my morning comments removed from this article, and from the education article about Newbury Park? Here it is again:

Update from Conejo Valley: Former CVUSD Supt Bob Fraise quit his job at CLU as Director of the Doctoral Program in the Ed Dept. He took a paycut and is now the Supt in Orange County at Laguna Beach. Did he sell his house in Dos Vientos in Newbury Park before the real estate crash and the layoffs at Amgen?

So, tell me. What is so offensive about my remarks?

To Fujo:

Thank you for enlightening me on Davis' "organizational skills" that brought nothing but headaches to the Parents & Students of PVSD.

The PVSD must be doing somthing wrong, if they can't keep their "Top Administrators" on the job!

Cathy Carlson from TO here: Thanks for putting my comments back on. But they removed my identical comments under a Conejo story, PLUS all the other comments under the "Welcome to Chaos" school story about Newbury Park High School, and some other schools. Why doesn't the Star want people to know that a former Ventura County school district superintendent is now working in Orange County? Why is the "comments" section removed from that article?

That's right Fujo.

I remember her "helping" OUHSD understand that we have an unsound academic program that should not be approved. When that failed, she brought out an ESL specialist to show we had no capability in that area.

I'll never forget her reaction as I sat behind her when OUHSD unamimously voted for CAPE....PRICELESS.

Yes, you could see the wheels turning. "What other vague accusations can I throw out." As if saying something made it true. Very irresponsible, in a similar way to throwing out unfounded political rumors. Once they're out there, they have a very long shelf life. Fortunately, the powers that be could smell the stink of desperation that was emanating from PVSD.
On a side note, I'm sure Dr. Davis is wonderful person, with a loving family, etc.... It just demonstrated to me the levels that people will sink to when they're part of a group that has an agenda not based on what is really right and true.

While claiming "declining enrollment" in PVSD, "Babs" spearheaded the movement to close schools with exemplary STAR test scores and waiting lists of students trying to get in. She did that rather than consolidate schools that actually had shrinking enrollment - go figure her logic.
Some folks might say she had more interest in the prime real estate values of certain school district properties rather than the best interests of the students who went to them.
Good luck to the students of Moreno Valley, they're going to need it.

I will give you what info I have. I would love to hear something besides we get $6M.
We know now that that information is incorrect in the studies. The amount will be less than $6M for leveling up. We know that a 1% salary increase for the entire district is $350,000. This is info presented from district staff. If the staff get a 15% raise that would be $5.25M. There are other numbers that are missing from those studies. ACHS special ed under estimated by $1.2M. ACHS cafeteria operates at a $200,000 negative each year. There is no transportation cost included. PVSD special ed was under estimated. Couple this with leaving 4 grades at RMHS at $1.2 per level. After taking out 85% for salary and benefits the fist year you lose $720,000, year 2 $540,000, year 3 $360,000 and year 4 $180,000. Based on these numbers the first year of unification you will have expenses of $7,170,200. Even if we use the $6M number we are still $1,170,200 short. At year 5 you are still $450,000 negative. Maybe we can close schools to make up the difference. While the teachers may get a raise it will come at the expense of the children and the district.
