VOLLEYBALL
BEACHBONES: The Conejo Valley Boys and Girls Club will offer a club volleyball program for boys. The Beachbones boys' tryouts will be Sept. 9 and 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a preview and parent meeting for the 14-year-old division. Tryouts and registration for 15-and-older boys will run from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tryouts will be at Colina Middle School, 1550 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. Tryout fee is $10 cash. Lisa Magorien is the club director. Westlake High boys' volleyball coach Doug Magorien and Yariv Lerner, Santa Monica College coach and former Thousand Oaks High coach, will be the club coaches.
LEAGUE OPENINGS: The United States Youth Volleyball League will continue taking registration through Saturday. Leagues in Camarillo, Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura have openings. Practice sessions will be on Wednesday nights from 5:30 to 6:30 and Saturday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. The Thousand Oaks League will practice on Tuesday nights from 5:30 to 6:30. WRESTLING
BENGALS REGISTRATION: The Bengals will hold registration every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Oxnard PAL Complex in Room 203. Boys and girls from 5 to 15 are welcome and adults wishing to help coach may apply. Cost for a one-year membership is $50.
WATER POLO
GOLD COAST: The Ventura Gold Coast Club will accept registration for boys and girls ages 8-14 for the fall season. Beginners are welcome. The cost for the season ranges from $225 for beginners, to $275 for advanced athletes, plus a $35 United States Water Polo fee. This includes three practices per week and games. TITANS REGISTRATION: The Titans are preparing for the Ventura County fall water polo league. The Titans practice at the Rio Mesa High Community Pool, 545 Central Ave., Oxnard. Practices will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. during the season. Players will practice three times per week and play games on Saturday in the Ventura County League beginning in mid-September. Cost is $375 for the 12-week season and players must be members with United States Water Polo, an additional cost of $35. SWIMMING
PLEASANT VALLEY: The Pleasant Valley Swim Team is registering swimmers age 6-18 for the 2007-2008 season. Registration will be at the newly renovated Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center at 1030 Temple Ave., Camarillo, on Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fall workouts begin Monday, Sept. 10. RIO MESA CLUB: Rio Mesa Swim Club is a competitive year-round program for ages 5 and older. The club mission is to have a positive environment, and every member will achieve their highest potential. SOCCER
VENTURA CAMP: The Ventura Football Club is offering an ongoing camp on the first and third Friday of the month for ages 6-13 at Ventura's Community Park at Kimball and Telephone roads from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The camp is free and invites all players. Activities will include skill training and short-sided games. The camp is run by professional coaches. Information: Mauricio Rivera at 223-6919.
WOMEN'S LEAGUE: The Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District will offer a women's 7-on-7 league. District teams may register through Friday and non-district registration will be Sept. 4-5. Cost is $250 for district teams and $315 for non-district teams. There is a $15 officials fee per game to be paid prior to each game. Information: 482-1996, ext. 17 or www.pvrdp.org.
TENNIS
JUNIOR CLINICS: GNH Tennis Training is accepting registration for clinics beginning the week of Sept. 10 and running six weeks. All levels are welcome. Cost is $108 per student ($126 for non-members), $138 per student for mini tennis ($156 for non-members). BASKETBALL
FUSION TRYOUTS: The North County Fusion girls basketball team for eighth-grade girls (and upper level seventh graders) will soon be having tryouts for the 2007-2008 season. DREW CAMP: The Larry Drew camp will be held Sept. 8-9 at Moorpark High for boys in grades 3-12. Cost is $195. Camp hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 9. Drew is an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks and a former Lakers assistant coach. Drew was a 10-year pro who averaged 20.1 points during the 1982-83 season with the Kansas City Kings. VIKINGS/VJAM TRYOUTS: The Vikings/Vjam girls' travel teams will hold tryouts for fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade teams. Information: Patrick Cunningham at 231-0855.
YMCA LEAGUE: The Ventura Family YMCA is accepting registration through Sept. 26 for a coed basketball league for ages 4-12. League fee is $45 for club members and $60 for community members. SOFTBALL
PUMAS TRYOUTS: The 16-and-under SoCal Pumas are seeking committed players. All positions are open. A tryout is scheduled for today from 5:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Borchard Park field No. 3 in Newbury Park. Information: Gary Keohohou at 368-5435, Mike Parker at 630-0010 or 427-0786.
SENIOR LEAGUE: The Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District is hosting a Monday senior softball league for players 50 and older at Mission Oaks Park. Games begin at 10 a.m. and it's free to those signing a waiver. Volunteers are needed to help line the fields and umpire when needed. Information: 482-1996, ext. 17.
JETS TRYOUTS: The SoCal Jets are forming a new 14-and-under travel ball team. Open tryouts for both 1993 and 1994 players will be held on Saturday and Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at Oaks Christian School, 31749 La Tienda Drive, Westlake Village. MVP LEAGUE: Registration is being accepted for the MVP Softball League at Ventura College. Divisions will be 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under, 16 and under and high schools. BASEBALL
OJAI FALL BALL: Ojai will host a fall ball league for 8-and-under, 10-and-under and 12- and-under players starting Sept. 16. League age is of 2008. Note 13-year-olds may play in the 12-year-old division, but not may not pitch. Individuals and teams are welcome. Fee is $50 per player or $500 per team. CAMARILLO LEAGUE: The Camarillo PONY Baseball Association will host a fall league for players ages 5-19. Registration is being accepted on line at www.cpba.org. Travel ball teams and individual may register. Cost is $650 per team and registration ends on Sept. 4. The season starts Sept. 9 and ends on Nov. 11. Games will be played at Pleasant Valley Park. Age divisions are Shetland through Colt. Information: www.cpba.org.
NEWBURY PARK LEAGUE: The Newbury Park PONY league is accepting registration for boys 4-14 for its instructional fall league. The 10-week season runs Sept. 16 through Nov. 18 with games being played at the Dos Vientos sports complex. The fee is $75, which includes a hat and jersey. SNIPERS TOURNAMENT: The Ventura Snipers will hold a Last Chance Tournament at the Ojai Little League fields on Sept. 7-9. Divisions are 8 and under, 10 and under and 12 and under. SNIPERS TRYOUTS: The Ventura Snipers are seeking 9-and-under and 12-and-under players for Cooperstown, N.Y., travel ball teams for 2008. Tryouts will Tuesday (5:15 p.m.) and Friday (5:15 p.m.) at Huntsinger Park in Ventura. Tryouts will run through Nov. 1. Information: 207-3629.
