Helicopter used for football injury in Ojai

From staff reports

A helicopter landed on the athletic field at Ojai Valley School in Ojai this morning to transport a student to the hospital after a football-related accident, authorities said.

The helicopter, which was carrying medical personnel, landed on the field about 9 a.m. after a suspected injury was reported on the football field, said Carl Cooper, headmaster of upper school.

Capt. Bonfiglio of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department said the incident involved a student football player who complained of pain in his neck.

The boy was transported by helicopter from the campus on El Paseo Road to Ventura County Medical Center, where it was determined that he had no significant injury, Cooper said.

"It was well worth doing it right rather than taking the chance," Cooper said. "That will always be our protocol, to err on the side of caution."

To JenLynn - I really think the situation was not funny at all. If it had been your son, would you be laughing? People need to think before they write such ridiculous comments. Have you heard of the word "compassion"?

Could have been a serious spinal injury and had the school not taken that precaution and it was that type of injury - guess who would get sued? Then guess who ultimately would have paid for it? Better to be safe than sorry!

Helicopter used for football injury in Ojai

Geez! Couldn't they just have used brass knuckles or something?

The Ojai valley school is somewhat remote. The helo was appropriate. if it was anything other than a neck/back injury then an ambulance probably would suffice. am I missing something about the brass knuckle comment?

adysnell if you read my next post you would see that I do care about the kid. This article was so poorly written and all it says is that he had a pain in his neck, no other information about how or why. If they are going to report on something like this they need to provide more details to make it even news worthy. Once I read the boy was ok I took the moment to make a bad joke, so what? I'm glad the school took the extra precaution, I would expect them to, but I also except a newspaper to write a better article. Like the fact the school is remote, I didn't know that about this school and I bet I am not the only one. I'm sorry you are so sensitive to this matter, I didn't mean to upset you. Do you feel better now?

Oh. The headline sounded like they purposely attacked him with a helicopter to create the injury.

JenLynn - Maybe you should get a job at the Star since you are always so right and you "think" you can do a better job than they do.

i wonder why they didn't use good ole' ojai valley hospital? i'm glad the boy is ok... where is the school located??
sometimes you have to find humor in bad situations, otherwise everyone would go crazy! this was a poorly written article. i guess they tried to write a "big" story with no info.
