Women's Club to hold kickoff brunch
The Camarillo Women's Club will begin its 2007-08 season with a brunch at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 6 at the Sterling Hills Golf Club, 9901 Sterling Hills Drive, Camarillo.
The speaker will be Diane Grossman, second vice president of the Tierra Adorada District.
Current members are asked to bring a friend interested in learning about the General Federation of Women's Clubs.

Over the Hill Gang to meet Sept. 9
The Ventura County Over the Hill Gang invites active people 50 and over to get acquainted at a meeting set for 4-7 p.m. Sept. 9 at a member's home in Camarillo.
Regular club activities include skiing, hiking, biking, dinners and cultural events. Guests may attend free.

MOORPARK
Presidential lovers topic of luncheon
The Moorpark Women's Fortnightly Club will hold its annual fall kickoff luncheon from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Moorpark Country Club, 11800 Championship Drive.
The event will feature Jacqueline Berger, who will give insight into real-life presidential lovers and courtships. Berger has studied the lives of the country's first ladies for more than 15 years and talks about them at venues across the country.
The Fortnightly Club is open to all women, and newcomers are especially welcome at the meeting, which starts the club year. The focus of the club is community service; however there are numerous small groups that meet throughout the month. Among the groups are bunco, books, crafts and an evening dinner for those who cannot make a day meeting.
Cost to attend is $25. Reservations must be made by Sept. 7 by calling Tami Gresiak at 529-5439.
Fundraising skills topic for Toastmaster
Moorpark Toastmaster will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at 200 Casey Road.
Member Linda Martins will discuss how to host a successful fundraiser.

Group to hold silent auction Wednesday
The Oxnard Gem and Mineral Society will hold a silent auction at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Oxnard Community Center, Ventura Room, 800 Hobson Way.
Natural minerals, rocks and finished material will be part of the auction.

Gardeners to discuss attracting butterflies
The Ventura County Garden Club will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 177 N. Seventh St., Santa Paula.
Lisa Burton, a master gardener and landscape designer, will speak on how to attract birds, butterflies and other creatures to a garden.

Simi Valley Women's Club to meet
Simi Valley Women's Club will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Santa Susana Community Center, 5005 E. Los Angeles Ave. Luncheon will be served at a cost of $10. The scholarship awards for high school graduates for the coming year will be discussed. Ladies from Simi Valley and Moorpark are welcome to attend.

Woodworkers to discuss finishes
The Conejo Valley Woodworkers Association holds its regular monthly meeting on the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at Redwood Middle School, 233 W. Gainsborough Road, Thousand Oaks.

Sportfishing club reels in speaker
The Ventura County Sportfishing Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at DuPar's Restaurant 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.
The guest speaker will be Jim Scarlata, who will present a program on fishing in Panama.
Adults who are interested in fishing are welcome. The club holds its meetings the first Tuesday of each month and sponsors "limited load" fishing charters for its members. It also provides an annual "kids fishing trip" for needy children of Ventura County.

BCNN to meet for monthly coffee
The Beach Cities Neighbors and Newcomers Club will meet for its monthly coffee at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ventura Yacht Club, 1755 Spinnaker Drive.

Jass club continues Sunday gatherings
The West Coast Traditional Jass Club will meet Sunday for its monthly dance and jam session.
The club meets from 1 to 5 p.m. the first Sunday of each month at 6500 Casitas Pass Road, Ventura. Entrance to the property is on Highway 150, about three miles east of Highway 101. From there, follow signs up Rincon Mountain. The club will supply hot barbecue pits, beans, salad and bread. You supply your own protein and something to share with others. Jammers welcome. Masonic Lodge holds event in Ventura
Channel Islands Masonic Lodge will hold its Sojourners Night on Sept. 6 at the Ventura Masonic Center, 482 E. Santa Clara St.

Mended Hearts continues meetings
The first meeting after summer break of Mended Hearts Chapter 101 will be 7 p.m. Tuesday on the eighth floor of Community Memorial Hospital, 147 N. Brent St.
Guest speaker will be Alon A. Steinberg, M.D., cardiologist with Cardiology Associates Medical Group.

Ventura Rheinland Club hosts dance
The International Friendship dance will be held by the Ventura Rheinland Club from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 36 S. Figueroa St.

East Ventura Rotary meets today
The Rotary Club of Ventura-East luncheon will meet today with speaker Col. Michael Phillips of the U.S. Air Force Intelligence Division. He will discuss unclassified matters pertaining to his career.
For the Sept. 6 meeting, the speaker will be Ramesh Gulrajani on the topic of "Careers4Teens," a Rotary project to help provide youth internship opportunities.

Spirit of Children' theme for meeting
Oxnard/Port Hueneme Christian Women will hold its luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 6 at the Wedgewood Banquet Facility, 5880 Olivas Park Drive.
"Spirit of Children" is the theme of the event.
The luncheon will feature speaker Pam Hage, a born shopper, who will speak on giving gifts and sharing how she found her greatest gift. Tina McGee will provide music, and Denise Castillo of the Foster Family Services "Aspire" will be the feature.
