High temperatures lead to a heat risk alert for valleys, mountains
Continued near-record temperatures led the National Weather Service on Thursday to issue an excessive heat watch for mountains and valleys in Ventura County.
The heat watch is in place through this evening.
By 11 a.m. Thursday, thermometers in Ojai were already reading 107, and 105 in Simi Valley, according to the Weather Service. Fillmore, Lockwood Valley and Thousand Oaks also reported temperatures in the 90s by late morning.
Triple-digit temperatures are expected to last through at least Monday.
Weather Service officials reminded county residents to drink plenty of fluids and stay in air-conditioned rooms to avoid heat-related illness.
Thursday's heat was exacerbated by some uncommon summer humidity.
Showers were reported in several parts of the county and scattered thunderstorms were predicted.
