Two who hit cyclist sought
Ventura police are asking for the public's help to find two motorists they say intentionally hit a bicyclist Monday night.
The two men, who were in a red 1980s-model Toyota sport utility vehicle, spit repeatedly at a 26-year-old Ventura cyclist as he rode his bike on Main Street about 6:30 p.m., Ventura police said.
When the bicyclist began to follow the SUV, the driver slammed on the brakes near Oak Street and Santa Clara Avenue, causing the victim to hit the back of the vehicle and careen into the opposite lanes, police said. Then, while the victim was still on his bike, the driver accelerated across the street and hit him again, police said.
The victim was treated at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura for abrasions and cuts, then released.
Police have classified the attack as an assault with a deadly weapon. They have not identified the two men in the vehicle.
Witnesses should call Ventura detectives at 339-4394 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 385-TALK.

Why have we seen so many car vs bike accidents? Maybe we should start a bicycle vigilante squad?
I hope the cyclist got the license number of those jerks.

This is just as bad as the Ice Cream Truck Driver being attacked. People are so cruel.

as a long time ventura bicycle rider, way back to 1961, the ventura cops dont care about bicycle riders!
the thought they are interested in this is that two of there own may be involved in this, and lets get it covered up!
or it could be a member of local government, sounds like a greet to meet.
ventura is second to santa barbara for bicycle accidents, bikes are in the way and we dont want them.
but bicycle riders are our future! no gas no insurance, you can park it in your living room, park in front of your favorite market, lock it up and watch the idiots in the parking lot! if you work and live in ventura it only takes five minutes more to ride than drive!
insurance companys want to give you a discount.
lets catch these government employees and give them a raise.
or hope they have a stroke when they are arrested.

isteve, your thinking is a bit wacky, but if you think the cops are involved in the crime or even a gov't official, then I think you may have some info nobody else has. Maybe you ought to go to the police and let them know your info.

My only beef with cyclists is that when they are riding in the bike lane, they ride all the way against the line, almost in the car lane! Are they just asking to get clipped? They have a wide lane, ride closer to the curb!
I do agree with isteve about bikes being useful for short commutes, but for those who have to drive a little farther, you just have to use a car.
I hope the police catch these guys.

I've been a bike rider all my life in Ventura and been close to being hit many times. People parked on the street don't look behind them before they open their doors either.
I hope the police catch them but that they are caught by the public first and taken care of.
