Beckham, Donovan expected to play

David Beckham and Landon Donovan are likely to be in the Los Angeles Galaxy lineup against Mexican champion Pachuca in tonight's SuperLiga final at the Home Depot Center.

Beckham has been bothered by a sprained left ankle since June and was limping after playing full matches on consecutive nights for England in London and the Galaxy in Carson last week. Donovan strained his right calf in a game on Aug. 18.

Sevilla midfielder dies: Sevilla midfielder Antonio Puerta died, three days after collapsing on the field during his team's Spanish league match against Getafe.

Puerta died of "multiple organ failure stemming from prolonged cardiac arrest" and subsequent coronary problems, Virgen del Rocio Hospital director Gimeno Guerrero said in a statement.

Leicester player collapses in locker room: Leicester City defender Clive Clarke collapsed in the locker room at halftime, causing his team's English League Cup against Nottingham Forest to be abandoned.

Kings add Lewis to staff, sign Aubin

The Los Angeles Kings have added former Boston and Detroit head coach Dave Lewis to their coaching staff.

The Kings also promoted Jamie Kompon to assistant coach and director of amateur development and signed goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin to a one-year contract.

Brown given raise, extension, bonuses

Texas coach Mack Brown got a two-year contract extension, a raise and a pair of hefty bonuses to come later. He also got a promise of a "significant position" if he ever decides to quit coaching the Longhorns.

Brown's contract was extended by two years through 2016, boosting his salary from $2.66 million to $2.91 million, including a special payment of $100,000 to be paid Saturday.

Isinbayeva defends world pole vault title

Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva defended her pole vault title at the world championships in Osaka, Japan, winning with a jump of 15 feet, 3 inches. But she fell short breaking her own world record, missing on all three attempts at of 16-5.

Suns agree to contract with Strawberry

The Phoenix Suns and D.J. Strawberry, their second-round draft pick, agreed to a two-year contract that guarantees him a roster spot this season.

Martin agrees to long-term contract extension: Guard Kevin Martin agreed in principle to a contract extension with the Sacramento Kings, believed to be for five year, beginning in 2008-09.

Ban on metal bats ruled constitutional

A federal judge dismissed arguments from manufacturers and ruled it was constitutional for New York City to ban metal bats from high school baseball games.
