Intruder injures T.O. resident with shears

A Thousand Oaks couple awoke around 1:10 a.m. Tuesday to find an intruder standing at their bedside, according to authorities.

The intruder, described as a man in his 20s, demanded money from the husband and wife while wielding a pair of gardening shears, deputies said.

After the man told the intruder that they did not have the amount of money he demanded, the intruder assaulted him with the shears, according to a Ventura County Sheriff's Department report.

The man struggled with the intruder and was able to remove the shears from his hands, deputies said, while the woman ran to a neighbor's house and called 911.

The intruder fled from the house in the 100 block of Shady Grove Lane. A police canine was used to help search the area, but no suspect was found.

The man's injuries were not life threatening.

Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Stoppers at 494-TALK.

Could have been prevented with a dog and a large handgun.
I hope they catch this guy but given the discription it does not seem likely.
