Football 2007>>

1. RIO MESA

The defending champions figure to be in the mix again this year. The Spartans will count on new quarterback Matt DeLosSantos and running back Jerell Thomas to lead the offense. The defense has great team speed, led by linebacker Quinton Greenlaw and defensive back Jordyn Aupiu.

2. OXNARD

With nine of 11 starters returning on defense and seven starters back on offense, the Yellowjackets have a rare combination of skill and experience. Quarterback Dasmen Stewart leads a balanced offense, while end Derek Shutt anchors the defense.

3. CAMARILLO

Like Rio Mesa, Camarillo is counting on a new quarterback to lead its offense. Senior Marcus Sanchez has looked good in camp and has plenty of weapons, including wide receiver Anthony Pinedo. The defense has an experienced secondary, with three of four starters from a year ago back.

4. PACIFICA

A strong offensive line and a talented quarterback in Vince Moraga have the Tritons thinking about a first appearance in CIF playoffs. Pacifica's fortunes could be decided by its defense.

5. HUENEME

First-year coach Steve Ruedaflores has returned excitement to the Vikings program. The Vikings have great skill at the wide receiver spots in Travan Nixon and Andre Austin. Ruedaflores believes if his team plays hard and makes enough plays, it can be a postseason threat.

6. CHANNEL ISLANDS

The Raiders figure to be good on defense, led by defensive end Eric Almaguer and defensive back Josh Beck. Coach Kernon Machado said his juniors need to be a force this season.
