Teen arrested in night vandalism of beach fence
A Port Hueneme teenager was arrested this week on suspicion of cutting down a section of fence around the city's planned Beach Promenade project.
Police responded at 12:19 a.m. Thursday to a report of someone vandalizing a recently erected chain-link fence that blocked off a section of beach for construction crews to work on the promenade project, police said in a prepared statement.
When officers arrived, they found 130 yards of fencing had been cut down and vandalized.
They found the 16-year-old suspect on a nearby street. He was carrying wire cutters and signs from the fence, according to the statement.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of vandalism and theft, cited and released to his parents.
Police said the teenager told officers he cut the fence because he wanted the beach to be open to everyone.

Hi Hueneme Residents. It was my moronic kid that did this absolutely absurd act of protest. I am completely embarrassed by this news story and his behavior. He snuck out of the house after I went to sleep to break the law and make a complete ass of himself! I plan on making sure the courts throw the book at him and I guarantee I will pay none of the fines or charges from the city for the destruction. If I have my way you will see him down on the beach in an orange jumpsuit putting that fence back up and picking up trash. Rest assured I have inflicted appropriate punishment at home as well. The previous post is correct, he DOES need a job!
I truly apologize for his behavior. I will do all I can to make sure he abstains from this type of protest in the future and learns proper, law abiding forms of protest!
Sincerely Yours,
Disappointed Parent at the Port

as_mail; Wow, I bet if there were more parents that took the same action as you did with your child, there just might be less of "kids running wild." I would do the same if it were my child, maybe more parents should learn from your actions. Great job and good luck.

As_mail, good for you for coming forward. That took guts, and certainly you have earned respect from the P.H. residents, and we're sure that you'll make him pay! Sometimes parents are scarier than the law!

Hey I’m the kid at the port
What u people don’t under stand, except 4 the last guy is that it’s not just a promenade. Its a fence keeping kids, families and locals off a part of the beach that I and a lot of my friends grew up on. Its were I and a lot of people fish and surf. Some people I know make there living by fishing out there. Now don’t get me wrong what I did I’m not proud of but its the only way 4 a 16 year old to say anything that people wont blow off.

as_mail , I think its very honorable of you to come online and tell people it was your son. His way of protesting BUT it was wrong. You sound like a great parent that will handle this right !!!!
As I have said over and over and over its not always the parents fault, do not always try to throw the blame at them ! Kids will be kids. I know it took alot for you to just admit he was your son that did it. You handle your business and Thankyou!!!!

I saw the fence that was put up. They had put the fence all the way to the water...Correct me if I am wrong but I do believe who ever put up this fence to the water was in violation of the California Coastal Act.
Chapter 3
Article 2 Public Resources Code
Sections 30211 Development Not To Interfere With Access & 30212 New Development Projects
They clearly are in violation of the act.
