Ventura church installs artwork
St. Paul's Episcopal Church announces the installation of three pieces of art created for its chapel by Ventura artist Lee Hodges.
She will discuss the artwork in the morning service dedication at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
The church is at 3290 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, and the public is invited.
The three pieces are based on scriptural texts pertaining to healing and comfort in Christ. The pieces are "A Very Present Help," "A Scene of Heaven" and "Healing Power."
The artist worked closely with the donor, Suzanne McFarland of Texas, to honor the memory of her mother, Mary Beth Bayles.
The Very Rev. Jerome Kahler, who conducted the Wednesday morning healing services that McFarland's mother attended, calls the artwork "a medium of praise to God and a meditation on God's healing grace."
The contemporary mixed media works are each composed of acrylic paint, collaged papers, iridescent glass and silvered plastics, making them shimmer and draw light from across the sanctuary.
They contain biblical texts from Matthew, Revelation and Psalms.
Call the church for more information at 642-5033.
The public also is welcome to visit Hodges' studio and gallery at 1560 E. Main St., Ventura.
The hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The gallery can be reached at 30167, or by visiting the artist's Web site at www.LeeHodgesArt.com.
