Teen arrested for cutting down beach fence

A Port Hueneme teenager was arrested this week on suspicion of cutting down a section of fence around the city's planned Beach Promenade project.

Police responded at 12:19 a.m. Thursday to a report of someone vandalizing a recently erected chain-link fence that blocked off a section of beach for construction crews to work on the promenade project, police said in a prepared statement.

When officers arrived, they found 130 yards of fencing had been cut down and vandalized.

They found the 16-year-old suspect on a nearby street. He was carrying wire cutters and signs from the fence, according to the statement.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of vandalism and theft, cited and released to his parents.

Police said the teenager told officers he committed the crimes because he wanted the beach to be open to everyone.

Just no brains they blocked off that part of the beach so that work could be done in the area. It was only going to be there until the job was finished. Well I guess that he could not read what was on the sign so he took it to find some one who could read.

Seems like it would be simpler to walk around it. Would have prevented a trip to jail anyway.
