Man injured, dog killed in Highway 101 car accident
A Carpinteria man was seriously injured and a dog killed Thursday in a car crash on the Rincon northwest of Ventura, authorities said.
Andrew Gring, 28, was driving north on Highway 101 just north of Padre Juan Canyon Road shortly after 7 a.m. when he swerved from the fast to slow lane and back again, according to Officer Shawna Davison, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.
Gring's vehicle struck another car, flipped over a guardrail and landed on the southbound side of the freeway.
Gring was trapped in the car, Davison said, and a dog was also ejected and died at the scene. Gring was extricated and treated for two broken arms at Ventura County Medical Center, authorities said.
One lane of southbound Highway 101 was closed for about 30 minutes, Davison said.
