Students return to Oxnard middle schools
Three more Oxnard elementary schools opened on a single-track schedule this month, bringing the total to seven.
The schools are Harrington, Richen and Sierra Linda.
The Oxnard School District hopes to move all its schools to a single-track schedule by the 2008-09 school year, said spokeswoman Micheline Miglis.
Meanwhile, the district has several different opening days, because many schools remain on a multi-track schedule.
Five schools started Aug. 7. Another seven started Tuesday, and three junior highs started Wednesday. Another set of schools will open in September.
With the start of school this week, about 50 students had to be transferred to another campus because some classes were over capacity, Miglis said. The students were transferred based on their date of registration. Students will be returned to their home school as space becomes available, Miglis said.
Despite the sporadic crowding, enrollment in the district was down by 400 students overall. Officials had anticipated a drop of 300, Miglis said. The district's total enrollment is 15,500.
