P.H. city council postpones plan to raise water rates
The Port Hueneme City Council has delayed plans to increase water rates and will discuss the matter next month in a public workshop.
On Wednesday, the panel was supposed to consider a 13 percent fee increase to keep the city's utilities department solvent.
However, City Manager David Norman recommended postponing the plan so his staff could do more research.
Under state law, the city must inform property owners of such fee increases before adopting them. The proposal called for raising monthly bills $5.41 to $46.99.
Property owners are allowed to protest the increase by returning a mail-in ballot. A majority of opposition would kill the proposal.
The council will review the matter during a workshop Sept. 19 and consider a proposal at a public hearing on Dec. 5.
