Plans for luxury kennel put on hold
Two business partners have shelved plans to open a luxury dog-and-cat kennel facility in Camarillo.
The costs of building the proposed Flying High Pet Resort at the Camarillo Airport would be too much, said Judy Arnold, who along with Dawn Lopez hoped to have the business in operation by summer 2008.
Arnold said the costs to bury power lines, build a wall around the facility and finish other needed work at the airport site would have totaled at least $2 million.
The partners unsuccessfully tried to use an alternate site near the Camarillo Ranch, she said. They are still looking for other locations in the region.
Their plans called for upscale "theme suites" that would have included beds for dogs in front of flat-screen color TVs.
Cats would have had carpeted "condos" about 6 feet high with two or three levels.
