Man shot, wounded in Oxnard

No motive has been identified for the shooting in Oxnard that injured a 47-year-old man early this morning, police said.

The victim, an Oxnard resident, was shot three times about 1:30 a.m. in the area of Ivywood Drive and Ventura Road, said Sgt. Andrew Salinas of the Oxnard Police Department.

The victim is being treated at Ventura County Medical Center. His wounds do not appear to be life-threatening, Salinas said.

Further details about the incident were not available this morning because officers have not fully interviewed the wounded man, Oxnard Police Spokesman David Keith said in an e-mail.

The most worrisome thing to me in a shooting such as this one is that nearby residents are placed at risk. This has been the case in a number of shooting incidents in and around Saticoy Avenue in Ventura. In at least one case, a bullet or bullets entered a home along Saticoy Avenue.

This is why I believe that strict law enforcement is needed up front to protect the citizens --- while we deal with the social problems and poor decisions by city officials that have set the stage for yet even more violence.

That is a totally unfair comment that the victim couldn't be an upstanding citizen because he was out at 1:30am.

I have a brother who lives over there and works two jobs and I am sure coming home at 1:30am is not unheard of for him and YES he is an upstanding citizen!!

Not all good citizens work 8-5 shifts, and even good people might stop off and have a drink and hang out with friends before coming home, or even heck...maybe the guy was on his way home from his new girlfriends house...

Talk about judgemental!

I hope he recovers quickly.

I agree with hotwildflower. Isn't there enough hatred and sarcasm in this world? We are so quick to judge, yet know that the Star doesn't always have all the facts. Either way, I think that is the problem with our society. So quick to judge and look for someone to blame. I choose to raise my children to be more open minded and fair. I consider this to be a pretty safe city considering all the things I've seen and been thru growing up in the one of the toughest parts of this city.

I completely agree with hotwildflower and Thinkaboutit, just because of the time he was shot, does not mean he was a gang member

My daughter works two jobs to support her family. She gets off at 2:30 AM from her job at a movie theater a couple times a week. If she gets shot while parking out on her own street I would hope she could be treated fairly even if she does live in Oxnard.

No one has accused anyone of anything. Ask yourselves this. Does anything good happen after midnight? There are always "exceptions". It just seems odd to me that it is always the exceptions who are "Innocent victims" The problem with society isn't the judgmental people per say, It 's that we have become a society of victims. It's always someone else's fault. The jails are full of innocent people right? I honestly hope this man recovers. I am sure he is a great person. I am saying ya gotta be careful. Just because you have a right to walk the streets at 1:30am, doesn't mean you should, from a mere common sense perspective.

i ran out to del taco at 2 am last weekend. i was on the computer getting prepared for your children to return to school next week. i was tired and hungry. del taco was far and in oxnard, but it was a nice cool night and i welcomed the drive. i saw no altercations and thank goodness. many of these "after hours" oxnard residents were there. i didn't get victimize by them and i did not witness their crimes. if i had, i would surely be crucified by the upstanding county citizens. they would speculate about me. we know only bar patrons, prostitutes, vandals, gang members, and those involved withdrugs have anybusiness after midnight. that's why del taco is open 24 hours. oxnard isn't a truck stop after all.

it would be a shameful thing to be caught slumming in oxnard at such an hour.

Leaving the hard working Del Taco & AM/PM people aside, you drove and never left the confines of your car. Did you walk? did ya sit on the curb in front of your house, munching those tacos? my guess is no. Rob is not out of wack. Any city can be hazardous @ 1:30am..be smarter people. Hope this guy can somehow ID the shooter.
