Last day to vote for city in IKEA contest

It's final day to vote for Ventura in makeover contest.

Downtown Ventura is the last California community still in the running to win a "Small Business, Big Dreams" makeover contest by Swedish home furnishings giant IKEA.

Today is the last day to vote in an online poll on IKEA's Web site.

The winner will receive $50,000 worth of furnishings and a team of IKEA designers to make over interiors of stores later this year.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Ventura was fourth in the poll, with about 1,000 votes. The leader, Lansing, Mich., had about 4,900 votes. The online poll counts for 30 percent of the entrant's final score.

Ventura's entry features a three-minute video, "Shop. Surf. Stay," produced by Rob Edwards, executive director of the Downtown Ventura Organization, and three volunteers.
