Doctor agrees to temporary license suspension
A Simi Valley doctor arrested in July on suspicion of sexual battery has agreed to a temporary suspension of his medical license.
Under the agreement reached Monday with the Medical Board of California, Dr. Shamim Amini, 34, temporarily is not allowed to practice medicine, prescribe drugs or be in a medical office or setting except as a patient.
An administrative hearing is set for Sept. 4. At that hearing, Amini will have a chance to present his side, said Debbie Nelson, an associate analyst with the medical board.
Amini, a graduate of St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Amini was arrested July 6 on suspicion of anal and genital penetration with a foreign object and sexual battery by restraint in a case involving two female emergency room patients at Simi Valley Hospital.
He was released five days later after the District Attorney's Office requested more time to investigate the case.
Amini is due back in court Oct. 9 to learn whether the district attorney will file charges.
Amini, who received his California medical license in 2006, was an emergency room physician under contract with Simi Valley Hospital. He no longer works at the facility, according to hospital officials.
Simi Valley police said a 41-year-old Camarillo woman, whose name was withheld, reported that she was sexually assaulted after visiting the emergency room May 5 for injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident.
Authorities said Amini was already under investigation after a 26-year-old Simi Valley woman, whose name also was withheld, told police she was assaulted April 20 after being admitted to the emergency room for a possible hernia.
Hospital officials said they were not contacted by the women and were unaware of any problems with Amini.
