Religion briefs: Grant nominations being accepted
CAMARILLO
The OneSpirit Center for Conscious Living, also known as the Simi Valley Religious Science Church, is taking nominations for the Bea Thompson Make a Difference Foundation's annual award.
This year the award funds are approximately $4,600. The individual or organization receiving the award must respect cultural diversity and the belief that all people are entitled to live peaceful, healthy, resourceful lives, regardless of race, age, education, ethnicity, cultural or financial resources.
The grant can be awarded for any activity from any field of endeavor that serves the betterment of humankind. The OneSpirit Board of Trustees will select the award recipient, to be announced at the OneSpirit annual Harvest of Abundance Banquet on Oct. 5.
Past recipients have been the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Interface Children Family Services, the Simi Valley Free Clinic and the Simi Valley Samaritan Center.
Applications can be obtained on the OneSpirit Web site, www.OneSpirit.org, or by calling the church office at 527-0870. The application period will close at noon Sept. 16.
SIMI VALLEY
Egyptian Festival set for Aug. 25 and 26
Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church will hold an Egyptian Festival from 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 25 and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at 1122 Appleton Road, Simi Valley.
There will be arts and crafts, face paintings, a book fair, a church tour and more.

Hadassah group looking for members
One of the newest Hadassah chapters in Southern California is looking for new members. Hadassah is the largest women's, largest Zionist and largest volunteer organization in America.
The multigenerational group of women will meet at 4 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Zeigler Center at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Simi Valley.

Synagogue open house, barbecue set
Congregation Am HaYam will hold an open house and barbecue at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 26.
Kosher hot dogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers, plus fixings and drinks will be provided at no charge. There will be music and dancing, and small gifts for all prospective members. There also will be storytelling.
Families with children are most welcome.

Crafters sought for Christmas boutique
Ventura Baptist Church is seeking crafters for its Christmas Boutique Spectacular to be held Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Items should be quality, handmade and will be juried for acceptability to the boutique.
Deadline for application submittal is Sept. 30. Spaces will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scripture program to start Sept. 17
St. Maximilian Kolbe Church will conduct its Scripture program from 10 a.m. to noon every Monday with the Gospel of Luke. Classes will start Sept. 17.
