Pilot dies after plane hits house
Scott Varley / Daily Breeze Rescue personnel respond after small plane crashed Saturday into a home in Lomita. The pilot later died.
LOMITA (AP) — A man flying in a small plane with his two dogs was killed Saturday after he crashed into a home in Lomita, about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.
The pilot "clipped the house just before turning upside down and landing in some trees and bushes," Inspector Jason Hurd of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Firefighters cut the pilot from the wreckage and took him to a local hospital where he later died, Hurd said.
The single occupant of the home was treated for minor cuts and bruises and released at the scene, Hurd said.
The dogs were in good condition.
