About 100 people wearing red, white and blue rallied Friday for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney in the Westlake Village area.

The protesters stood with banners and signs on each corner of the Westlake Boulevard and Townsgate Road intersection.

"We want to give all Republicans thinking about impeachment our support," said Marcy Winograd, president of Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles.

The rally was organized by the Los Angeles National Impeachment Center, Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Green Party.

The group marched to the Thousand Oaks office of Rep. Elton Gallegly, R-Simi Valley. He was not there to receive the group.

Many in the group said they supported impeachment as a way to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution, and to prevent a "police state."

"It is also showing that dissent is OK, that dissent is patriotic. That's what it means to be an American and that's our fundamental right that we want to protect," said Mary Pallant, 46, a resident of Oak Park.

The rally brought visibility to an issue that some people may think is taboo, Pallant said.

There were approximately 100 protesters, with about 56 from Gallegly's district.

They signed Articles of Impeachment and delivered them to Gallegly's office.

I attended the rally yesterday with my daughter, Erika, an Iraq Veteran.
She was interviewed by a Star Reporter, but did not appear in the article. Erika is a third generation veteran, her grandfather flew B-25 Mitchell Bombers in WWII, her mother (me) Vietnam-Era Veteran. Erika is also a direct decendant of Major John Buttrick, who gave the famous order to fire at the Battle of Concord at Old North Bridge in Massachusettes. The land where Major Buttrick stood had been in his family since 1635, 150 years before the revolution took place. The colonists felt that this was THEIR land now and did not want the British to take it from them and were willing to risk their lives in order to secure their properties. It is so sad that we did not learn an important lesson from the Revolution - people don't like armies showing up and occupying their land! We need to end this imperialistic attitude. We had no right to invade Iraq, the Iraqi people overwhelmingly support the full withdrawal of US and Coalition forces from their country. Saddam Hussein possessed no WMDs and was not connected in anyway with 9-11. Erika served in the Army for 4 1/2 years, one year in Baghdad. I am certain that if you spent 30 minutes with her over coffee and she told you what it is like there you would support the Impeachment of George Bush, Dick Cheney AND Alberto Gonzales.
