Woman, girl arrested after short car chase
An 18-year-old woman and a teenage girl from Nyeland Acres were arrested Tuesday morning after they allegedly led police on a brief chase.
Officers from the Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force arrested Inez Peralta, 18, and a 17-year-old girl after a brief low-speed pursuit through Oxnard, according to a statement from the Oxnard Police Department.
The 20 mph pursuit began in Nyeland Acres about 8:10 a.m. when members of the Auto Theft Task Force saw Peralta and the teenager enter a car that officers had identified as stolen, according to the statement.
When sheriff's deputies tried to stop the vehicle, Peralta allegedly drove for about a mile then stopped at Camino Del Sol and Kinetic Drive.
She and the teenager were arrested. Police did not identify the juvenile.
Peralta was booked into Ventura County Jail, where she was being held Tuesday in lieu of $20,000 bail. The younger woman was cited and released to her parents.
Members of the Auto Theft Task Force include the California Highway Patrol, the Oxnard Police Department, the Port Hueneme Police Department and the District Attorney's Office.
