Ventura Raceway: Oxnard's Harper wins demolition derby

Oxnard's Kohdy Harper did some damage in the 14-car field demolition derby Wednesday night at the Ventura County Fair motor sports show.

Before 6,000 fans, Harper provided a lot of bang in a smoke and fired-filled event.

Harper was the last car running. Michael Stanford finished second and Justin Dudley was third.

There's another demolition derby tonight at the fair.

Racing starts at 6 p.m. and the demolition derby will cap the IMCA modifieds and Ford Focus midgets. Brent Stevens earned the Ventura Racing Association pro dwarf car feature. Stevens started fourth and finished ahead of Jeff Shelton and Jim Scribellito. Stevens and Jeff Fillingame were heat winners.

Ed Niedzwiecki won the senior dwarf car feature. John Lynch was second and Gary Conditt was third. Niedzwiecki and Kevin Alverson were heat winners.

Niedzwiecki extended his points lead to 2,150 after nine races. Bill Van Praag is second with 1,825.

Richard Ortega Jr. won the NMRA TQ midget feature. Dennis Hart was second and Kenny Wiley third. Randy Moody and Wiley were heat winners.

Mike Frazier won the sport compact feature. Randal Dougan was second and Andrew Greiman was third.

Dougan and points leader Joel Chavez were heat winners.

Tommy Velasquez won the mini dwarf cars I feature. Jimmy McDonald was second and Ethan Dotson was third.

Velasquez and Dotson won heat races.

Tyler Jerman won the mini dwarf cars II main event. Brody Schweitzer was second and Riley Helland third. Christian Copley was victorious in the junior midgets. Amanda Green finished second and Ramon Rivas was third.
