Ancient Latin America topic of lecture
The Moorpark Active Adult Center will present a free art lecture and slide show at 2 p.m. May 1 at 799 Moorpark Ave. in Moorpark.
Lecturer Debbie MacIntosh will provide a glimpse into the rich heritage of the Olmec, Zapotec and Aztec civilizations, whose achievements in agriculture, mathematics, astronomy and architecture rivaled the great civilizations of Europe and Asia, and impact our lives today.
This is the fifth session in a seven-month, once-a-month lecture series, and is made possible by the Forest Lawn Museum's Speaker Series.

Senior social features show and refreshments
Temple Adat Elohim has slated a Tuesday Social for 2 p.m. May 8 at the temple social hall, 24020 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. The event is for anyone 60 or older.
The featured guest will be composer, conductor, singer and lecturer Shelly Cohen, who will make a musical presentation, "The Wonderful World of Jewish Music." Refreshments will be served.
The program is free and is sponsored by The Greatest Generation Group, Temple Sisterhood, and the Jewish Federation.

Living Treasures to be inducted at museum
Rotary Clubs of Ojai Living Treasures will have an induction celebration of the 2007 Living Treasures at the Ojai Valley Museum, 130 W. Ojai Ave., Ojai from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Rotary Clubs of Ojai Living Treasures is an organization that recognizes individuals in the community and supports them in their commitment to be of service to others.
Living Treasures are members of the community whose presence inspires those around them.
Living Treasures for 2006-07 are: David Bury, Joan Kemper, Jane McClenahan, Don Orser, Marlene Spencer and Nan Tolbert.

'Mental gymnastics' class set at Wilson Center
A new class in "mental gymnastics" is being offered for those 55 and older from 1 to 2 p.m. every Friday at the Wilson Senior Center, 350 North C St., Oxnard.
The class, conducted by Dr. Donald W. Thiebeault, aka "Dr. T," offers techniques and ideas to delay and possibly prevent future memory decline.
No registration, fees, fancy workout clothes or expensive gym bag are required just show up and give that gray matter a workout.

VENTURA
Cinco de Mayo fiesta on tap at Avenue Center
The Ventura Avenue Adult Center has slated a Cinco de Mayo fiesta from noon to 2 p.m. May 4.
The festive event will feature south-of-the-border music by Valencia and Friends, Mexican food and refreshments by Taqueria Tepatitlan and Herrera's Bakery, door prizes and more.
The fiesta is free and cosponsored by The Gables of Ojai and Kaiser Permanente.
Reservations are being taken through May 1 or until 125 people have signed up.

Election to be held for disabled veterans group
Disabled American Veterans Chapter 24, Ventura, will hold a meeting for the election of officers at 7 p.m. today.
Other topics to discuss will be planning for a petition drive, preparation for Memorial Day activities and planning on ways to support the troops. Attendance is mandatory for officers and appointees.
The meeting will be at Ventura Elks Lodge No. 1430, 2125 Knoll Drive, Ventura. It will be preceded at 6 p.m. by a hamburger supper.
