Two girls hospitalized for intoxication
Two middle school girls who consumed alcohol on school grounds were hospitalized Friday because of their level of intoxication, the Fillmore Police Department reported.
At 1 p.m., Fillmore School Resource Deputy Jerry Peterson responded to Fillmore Middle School after a report of the incident, authorities said.
Peterson interviewed several students, and ultimately the two 14-year-old girls were transported to Santa Paula Hospital, officials said in a prepared statement.
They added that unknown types of prescription drugs were recovered and turned over to the hospital staff for analysis.
All students involved were released to their parents.
Ventura
Internet business owner fined
The owner of a Ventura based Internet business was fined $25,000 recently after allegedly violating advertising laws, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office reported Friday.
Nicholas Bonge, 52, owner of High Tech Pet Products Inc. of Ventura agreed to a final judgment, without admitting guilt.
The agreement included a stipulation prohibiting the business from violating the same law in the future, officials said.
High Tech advertises and sells pet products, according to a DA's Office press release. The complaint said that High Tech employed misleading advertising.
Two arrested in several burglaries
Two people were arrested in Carpinteria after an investigation into several burglaries in Ventura, officials reported Friday.
Jason Brigham, 31, and Doris Leonard, 56, both of Ventura, were booked into Ventura County Jail. Their bails were set at $170,000 and $50,000, respectively. Both are scheduled to appear in court May 1.
Ventura police said an investigation was initiated after they received numerous burglary reports within the past three months.
For the most part, the burglaries took place during the day and in the midtown area, officials said.
Police received information that led them to a motel in the 5500 block of Carpinteria Avenue Wednesday, where they believed Brigham was staying. In a prepared statement, authorities said Brigham "had either pawned or was in possession" of property from at least six of the reported burglaries.
During the investigation in the motel room, Leonard arrived and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of transportation of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property, officials said.
Police are still investigating whether Leonard was involved in any of the burglaries.
