Naughty Rafaela, Bonfante win features

Naughty Rafaela won the 59th running of the $200,000 Santa Barbara for fillies and mares at Santa Anita on Saturday.

Ridden by David Flores, the 5-year-old mare edged Mabadi by a length, running 1 1/8 miles on the turf course in 1 minute, 48.12 seconds. The race was shortened to make the race safer for horses after Friday's rain.

Naughty Rafaela returned $7.20, $4 and $2.60. Her lifetime earnings rose to $206,224 with Santa Barbara's winning purse of $120,000.

The $103,488 San Simeon Handicap went to long-shot Bonfante after the six-furlong event was taken off the grass and moved to the dirt.

Ridden by Aaron Gryder, Bonfante, the longest price in the reduced field at 6-1, finished the race in 1:14.59.

Slew's Tizzy covered the 1 1/16 mile course in 1:43.20 and paid $83, $29.60 and $13.60. Starbase was second.
