Federer, Nadal reach Monte Carlo quarters
Rafael Nadal extended his winning streak on clay to 64 matches and Roger Federer cruised to victory Thursday in the third round of the Monte Carlo (Monaco) Masters.
Nadal scored 21 unanswered points in the second set to beat Kristof Vliegen of Belgium 6-1, 6-1. The Spaniard last lost on clay more than two years ago.
Federer, who has reached the quarterfinals at Monte Carlo three straight times, defeated Lee Hyung-taik 6-4, 6-3.

Ex-Arkansas QB heading to USC
Mitch Mustain, a freshman quarterback at Arkansas who obtained a release to transfer and left the team in January, is headed for USC, according to a published report.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, citing an unnamed source, said Mustain would enroll at USC during the summer semester. He has remained enrolled at Arkansas for the spring semester, but did not participate in the Razorbacks' spring workouts, concluded earlier this month.
Mustain was the Parade magazine prep player of the year in 2005.

Reifers shoots 64 to lead Zurich Open
PGA Tour rookie Kyle Reifers shot a course-record 8-under 64 at the TPC Louisiana at Avondale, giving him a two-shot lead over Mark Calcavecchia after the first round of the Zurich Classic.
Reifers' round was one shot better than the previous record on the 3-year-old course, which had been set by both Chris DiMarco and Arjun Atwal in 2005, the only other time the tournament was held at the TPC Louisiana.
Tim Petrovic, who won that year, finished his round in a four-way tie for fourth at 67, along with Lucas Glover, Jason Schultz and Tom Johnson.
Jacquelin leads BMW Asian Open by one shot: France's Raphael Jacquelin shot a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the BMW Asian Open at Shanghai, China.

Santa Anita to host 2008 Breeders' Cup
The Breeders' Cup is moving to a synthetic surface for the first time in its 25-year history next year.
Santa Anita in suburban Arcadia will host the world championships for the fourth time on Oct. 24-25, 2008.
The track will replace its dirt oval with a synthetic surface this summer.

The 13-year veteran punter agreed to a one-year contract with the team that jettisoned him last October after he was suspended for violating the NFL's drug policy. He was caught using the banned dietary aid ephedra in a misguided attempt to lose weight and gain gusto for his workouts.
Scott signs one-year tender to stay with Colts: The Indianapolis Colts expect starting guard Jake Scott to return back next season, but may not be as fortunate with starting cornerback Jason David.
Scott planned to sign his one-year tender, keeping him with the Super Bowl champions in 2007.
NFL.com reported David has agreed to a four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. Indy would have seven days to match the offer or receive a fourth-round draft pick as compensation.

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Janica Kostelic retired from skiing, saying she is enjoying life off the slopes more than winning medals.
Kostelic became the most successful female skier in Olympic history when she won gold and silver at the 2004 Turin Games, adding to her three golds and one silver from Salt Lake City in 2002.
