Herrera Brothers, folkloric group among entertainers at Lions Club event
The second annual Fillmore Lions Club community fundraiser will get under way at 2 p.m. Sunday, featuring a lineup of entertainment including the Herrera Brothers, Ballet Folkloric Ollin and Jose Ronstadt.
The concert, at Fillmore Middle School, 615 Shiells Road, Fillmore, will also include singer Ixya Herrera, the Conjunto Hueyapan and the Mariachi Aguilas de Mexico.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Fillmore Lions Club, Fillmore Soroptimist Club, Rancho Camulos Museum, Fillmore High School's boys and girls soccer and basketball teams.
Tickets for the event are $20 and $25 and can be purchased at the door Sunday, or in advance by calling Jorge Herrera at 524-2451, or Carmen Zermeño at 524-2756.
The Herrera Brothers Conjunto Macuilxochitl de los Hermanos Herrera vocalists and musicians, have performed on national television programs and performing arts centers in the U.S. and Mexico. The group has recorded five CDs.
Television news anchor Ronstadt, who has been host and producer of a number of television shows and advocate to the advancement of Hispanics, will be master of ceremonies.
Ballet Folkloric Ollin, a nonprofit cultural organization dedicated to preserving the folk culture of Mexico, has performed at various state and community fairs, the 91st annual Tournament of Roses Parade, 1984 Olympic Arts Festival at Los Angeles and at the "Feria Nacional de San Marcos" in Mexico.
Singer Ixya Herrera made her stage debut at the age of 12 at the Tucson International mariachi Conference, singing duos with her idol Linda Ronstadt and later did 16 guest appearances with her in the Fiesta Mexicana Tour. She has performed throughout the country and in Mexico. Conjunto Hueyapan of Oxnard was founded in 1973 by Professor Fermin Herrera. The family ensemble consists of the brothers, Fermin, Andres, Jorge and Tomas Herrer, one sister Mara Isabel Herrera and Fermin's two sons, Xocoyotzion and Motecuhzomah.
Rounding out the acts is Mariachi Aguilas de Mexico, featuring top musicians who attended Camarillo, Oxnard, Pacifica and Channel Islands high schools. They have recorded two CDs and are working on a third.
