Two men arrested in home burglary, fire
Two men from Thousand Oaks were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of burglarizing a $2.4 million home in Lynn Ranch and setting it afire Friday, police said.
Michael Shearer, 22, and Michael White, 18, were booked on charges of arson and first-degree residential burglary, a felony, said Thousand Oaks Police Detective Eric Buschow.
Shearer also was booked on charges of possession of a deadly weapon. He had brass knuckles and an expandable baton on him when arrested, Buschow said.
They were booked into Ventura County Main Jail with bail set at $50,000 each.
A community member went to police after hearing one of the men brag about the incident, which took place early Friday, Buschow said. The fire in the 800 block of Calle Laredo in an unincorporated area in Thousand Oaks was reported at 3:02 a.m. When firefighters and sheriff's deputies arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.
Ventura County Fire Department arson investigators and the Sheriff's Department, which provides police services for Thousand Oaks, worked together on the investigation.
