Red Cross to offer disaster team training

Two full days of training are being offered Saturday and Sunday to individuals interested in becoming American Red Cross Disaster Action Team members.

The training prepares individuals for the role of a volunteer responder in times of disaster and trains them in relief efforts. The DAT volunteers are vital to American Red Cross disaster response, agency officials said.

The two-day training is free. The first day starts with a basic American Red Cross orientation, and then goes into a more detailed disaster services introduction. Participants will learn about mass care and sheltering. The group will also run through a shelter simulation. Day two is comprised of client casework procedures and a workshop where participants learn how a DAT team works and where they fit in.

Limited seating is available, so those planning to attend are asked to reserve a seat by calling 339-2234, ext. 235.

Training will be in the Thousand Oaks Sheriff's Department Community Room, 2101 E. Olson Road, Thousand Oaks.
