Peers name Young Simi Officer of Year
Simi Valley police chose Brian Young as the department's Officer of the Year this week, officials said.
The award is the Simi Valley Police Department's top honor, and Young deserves it, said Lt. Roy Jones, one of Young's former supervisors.
"As a supervisor you could always count on Brian to do the right thing," Jones said Wednesday.
All Simi Valley officers can vote for the Officer of the Year, and any officer in good standing is eligible.
Young, a Simi Valley native, joined the department in 2000.
He attended Simi Valley High School and has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice administration from Sonoma State University, according to a prepared statement.
Young currently works to combat gang activity as part of the department's Special Problems Section and also serves on the special weapons and tactics team.
He has spent most of his career as a patrol officer, and in 2004 Mothers Against Drunk Driving honored him for his efforts to keep drunken drivers off the streets, according to the statement.
