Five-acre fire near Somis is put out
Ventura County firefighters controlled a five-acre fire Wednesday afternoon in the Somis area after winds pushed it toward homes, spokesman Capt. Barry Parker said.
At 4:35 p.m., officials received a report of a fire in a eucalyptus grove on the 5200 block of Kingsgrove Drive, Parker said.
He added that officials were initially worried because the fire, which quickly spread to a nearby citrus grove, was heading toward the homes.
Parker said it took five engine companies to control the blaze. A Fire Department Web site reported three helicopters were dispatched.
Firefighters were still investigating the cause Wednesday night.
