The 2007 Conejo Valley Days Grand Marshal Race for Charity is under way and already the winners have been announced.

Irene "The Singing Cowgirl" Brennick of Simi Valley has captured the Grand Marshal category.

Michele "Montana" Larson and "Li'l Miss Hannah from Aspen Territory" Santos, both of Thousand Oaks, won the first Dynamic Duo category.

Their victories are assured because there is no one else in their categories, said Pamela Whiting, chairwoman of the grand marshal event.

However, all three are pushing hard to raise money for their nonprofits, Whiting said.

Brennick, 47, a board member of Hospice of the Conejo, is raising money for that organization.

Larson, 43, and Hannah Santos, 9, are raising money for programs at Aspen Elementary School, where Hannah is a third-grader and Larson is director of the Aspen New Millennium Chorus.

For their efforts, the trio will get to ride in the Conejo Valley Days Parade on May 5 and will get lifetime passes to CVD events.

Brennick is director of community services at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks.

She said she got interested in Hospice when she attended a fundraiser last year at The Oaks shopping center in Thousand Oaks.

"I was so impressed with that event and thought the people involved with the charity were the kind of people I'd like to help, so I became a volunteer," she said.

A Brennick fundraiser, featuring a pasta dinner and a Chinese auction, begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mandevilla Restaurant, 951 S. Westlake Blvd. Hospice will get a percentage of the $31 charge for the evening.

Starting about 6 p.m. Wednesday, at Enrique's Mexican Restaurant, 159 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., there will be a "Jail & Bail" event with proceeds going to Hospice.

Brennick, who regularly sings Wednesday nights at Enrique's, will put on her cowgirl hat and sing country songs.

Larson said a major reason for her participation in the Grand Marshal race is to get people to come to the May 5 parade down Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

She and "Li'l Miss Hannah" will march and perform a flag routine with about 100 other members of the Aspen New Millennium Chorus, she said.

Since the pair would also like to ride in the parade, Larson is figuring out how they can march, then get back to the rear of the parade to enjoy their ride.

Two years ago, Hannah Carol Santos was chosen "Little Miss Conejo Valley Days" in the Tiny Tots Pageant.

"I had so much fun meeting lots of people and dressing up in my cowgirl clothes," she said. "Now I'm excited to once again be part of CVD with my chorus teacher, Mrs. Larson, and support my school and community."

The Dynamic Duo's slogan this year is, "Two small town girls make a big town difference."

The last fundraising opportunity for the trio will be during the "Final Countdown," which begins at 7 p.m. April 27 at Goebel Senior Center, 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.
