VENTURA
Anacapa Middle School
n Students will go to Balboa Middle School on Friday to compete in the battle of the books.
n Open house will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 25. All current and future school parents and students are welcome.
n The library media center will have the annual book fair Monday through April 30. The book fair will also be open during open house.
n The talent show will be from 7 to 8 p.m. April 27.
El Camino High School
n The California Standards Tests will be administered to all ninth- through 11th-grade students on campus Tuesday through April 26.
n Each year one student is selected to be the Ventura Unified School District Student Board of Education representative. This is an opportunity for a student who enjoys public speaking and wants to represent the school. Applications are available in the office and are due on April 27.
n On April 27 the drama program will present "Adorabelle and the Seven Sillies." A free morning presentation will take place at 9 a.m. for area elementary schools, and an evening performance will be at 7 p.m. for the community. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for children.
E.P. Foster Elementary School
n There will be an event from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday to mark Earth Day. Activities will include self-guided garden tours, a drum circle and a display of student artwork. Contact MaryJane Bauleke at 641-5420 ext. 102, for more information or to volunteer.
Juanamaria Elementary School
n PTA elections will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. All members are welcome to the meeting.
n Awards assemblies are scheduled for 8:45 and 10:25 a.m. Friday.
Nordhoff High School
n The music department is planning to go to Carnegie Hall in New York on Friday and stay through April 25. Pictures will be available at http://www.nhsmusic.com.
Pacific High School
n A representative from Jostens will be on campus to take cap and gown and ring orders Thursday.
n An after-school field trip to the ROP program is planned for Thursday.
n Orientation-registration for all new students will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
n STAR testing will be Tuesday through April 26.
Pierpont Elementary School
n Pierpont's silent auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 29.
n STAR testing will run May 1 through 18.
n The talent show will be held June 7.
Somis Union School District
The Somis Union School District is hosting a kindergarten tea and information meeting beginning at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for new students and parents to get acquainted with a new school.
Kindergarten registration is being accepted at Somis School, 5268 North St., Somis.
The single kindergarten through eighth-grade school, offers full day (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) kindergarten; time for the arts and physical education without losing academics; safe daily transportation to and from school; small class size with an instructional assistant in the classroom; hot lunches prepared daily in the school's cafeteria; and summer enrichment programs between kindergarten and first grade.

Ventura Charter School
n An information meeting for the 2007-08 school year is being held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. The Ventura Charter School, serving kindergarten through eighth-grade, is at 2060 Cameron St., Ventura.

Ventura County Christian School
n The spring carnival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be games, booths, cakewalk, food and cow pie bingo at the school, 96 MacMillan Ave., Ventura.
n Tuesday is family fun dinner night at Yolanda's.
Ventura High School
n STAR testing begins the week of April 23.
n Tuesday and April 26 will be minimum days. Dismissal will be at 12:26 p.m.
n This year the spring musical is "Grease." Performances in the auditorium will be at 7 p.m. April 26-28 and May 3-5, and at 6 p.m. April 29 and May 6. Ticket prices are $7 adults and $5 students.
n A PTSA meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Monday in the ASB room.
