Moorpark ends VC's winning streak at 14
Right fielder Sharlean Torst knocked in a two-run double in the sixth inning and pitcher Savannah Lugo wriggled out of a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the seventh inning as the Moorpark College softball team halted cross-county rival Ventura's 14-game winning streak, 6-4, Tuesday afternoon in Moorpark.
Amy Pilkington and Danielle Maxwell had two hits apiece as the Raiders (17-24, 8-14) climbed out of a 4-0 hole to deal a blow to Ventura's Western State Conference title hopes
Ventura (27-13, 17-5) saw its WSC North lead over second-place Cuesta reduced to one game with three to play.
"We're the spoilers," said Moorpark coach Kelly Lovato. "We play Cuesta on Thursday."
Christyna D'Agati pulled Moorpark within one with a two-run double in the fifth.
Ventura started the top of the seventh with a double, a walk and a hit by pitch. Lugo escaped when Pilkington turned Esperanza Reyes' line drive to left field into a double play and Lugo got the next batter to ground out to second.
Ventura had defeated Moorpark 6-1 amd 10-1 in their previous meetings this season.
