Victim of fatal weekend fall identified
County officials today identified a Thousand Oaks man who died after falling down a steep embankment and into a concrete parking lot over the weekend.
The man, found dead Saturday behind the abandoned Kmart store at 325 Hampshire Road in Thousand Oaks, is Michael McCray, 45, of Thousand Oaks, said Armando Chavez, a senior deputy medical examiner for Ventura County.
Sheriff's officials found McCray about 12:35 p.m. Saturday after a passer-by saw his body from a distance.
They determined he had fallen over a guardrail on Foothill Drive, tumbled down a steep embankment and dropped over a roughly 10-foot-tall retaining wall to the concrete parking lot below.
McCray died of blunt-force head trauma, Chavez said. His death has been ruled an accident.
