Three schools named a California Distinguished School
Three Ventura County schools have been named California Distinguished Schools, an award recognizing the state's most exemplary public programs.
The list of 171 middle and high schools was announced today, and each school principal received a call from state Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell.
In Ventura County, Monte Vista Middle School in Camarillo, Nordhoff High School in Ojai and Valley View Middle School in Simi Valley made the list.
Each of the schools submitted detailed applications about their programs, then hosted visits from judges.
Schools on the list represent about 7 percent of California's nearly 2,400 middle and high schools. Chosen from 132 school districts, the schools will keep the Distinguished School designation until 2011.
