Rio Mesa relays shine at Mount SAC
For the second consecutive year, Rio Mesa High showed off its county-best sprint relay teams on Saturday at the Mount San Antonio College Relays in Walnut.
Rio Mesa's boys' team of Sean Alfino, Quentin Greenlaw, Steven Richards and Josh Harrison took second in the invitational 4x100 relay in 41.96 seconds behind Rancho Cucamonga's winning 41.80 time. The same team won the invitational 4x200 in 1:28.09. Anchorman Harrison also placed fifth in the individual 100 in 10.64.
For the Rio Mesa girls, Saraina Hedgepeth, Takiyah Cotton, Mariyah Lee and Teara Richardson took second in the seeded 4x100 relay in 48.72. Riley Nizdil won the open high jump at 5 feet, 3 inches, while Thousand Oaks' Bridget Ryan and Shara Longbotham finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Malibu's Imani Truluck placed second in the girls' seeded 100 hurdles and third in the seeded 300 hurdles.
In the invitational boys' 4x800 relay, Oak Park's Doug Bettisworth, James Goldstein, Garrison Gourdeau and Evan Hennessey placed sixth overall in 8:12.73. Westlake's Victoria Smith, Lucy Durago, Brianna Alban and Molly Norling-Christensen took seventh in the seeded girls 4x1,600 relay at 23:04.78.
Thousand Oaks' Jeff Altizer won the boys' seeded pole vault at 14-7 and teammate Garrett DeMirjian placed third in the open high jump. Moorpark's Tazwell Finley took second in the open pole vault with a 13-7 and Tommy Doupe of Westlake placed ninth in the open shot put. Agoura's Derek Johnson won the invitational discus with toss of 197-2.
Clayton Graham of Calabasas won the seeded 1,600 in 4:20.88, while Cory Primm of Westlake finished second in the invitational 1,600 at 4:11.94.
In the girls' seeded pole vault, Brianna Blair of Thousand Oaks tied for first with a 10-7 and Moorpark's Ari Adachi came in seventh at 10-1.
Brittany Harper of Calabasas took seventh in the girls' invitational 400 at 57.07, just shy of her county-best time of 56.65. Erin Baird of Agoura placed 11th in the seeded 1,600.
