About this project
The Indian Ocean tsunami nearly three months earlier killed more than 31,000 Sri Lankans, left 500,000 people homeless and buried the coast in rubble.
The church team had nine days to make a difference.
Sent to a coastal village and refugee camp where people lived in tents and temporary shelters, their goal was to build the permanent homes needed to protect villagers from the coming monsoon.
They arrived to find a nation paralyzed in fear and within days tasted the emotion themselves. They endured suffocating heat, driving rain and other barriers that have hindered Sri Lanka's rebuilding efforts. And yet their journey brought them a sense of hope.
