Clothing offered to victims of flooding
La Conchita residents had their pick of items last Saturday and then on Sunday, organizers held a rummage sale to sell more. That sale will continue from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today on the grounds of Pierpont School, 1254 Martha's Vineyard Court in Ventura. In addition to La Conchita residents, anyone displaced or who lost items in the recent storms is invited to come and get free clothing.
The surplus clothing will be sold and proceeds will be donated to the La Conchita Relief Fund, said Robin Battenfield, who started the clothing effort with Trace Flores.
Shoes and clothing for men, women, children and infants are available, donated by folks from as far away as Moorpark and Santa Paula.
"It was nice, a wonderful feeling," seeing all the donations pour in, Battenfield said. Those who couldn't donate clothing stayed to help sort the items, she said.
