Thousands expected at memorial service Sunday

Thousands of people are expected to attend a community gathering Sunday in Santa Barbara to remember those who died in the mudslide at La Conchita and in the tsunami disaster in South Asia.

Lucy Popova, spokeswoman with the American Red Cross, said residents of La Conchita are encouraged to attend the gathering, which will be at 2 p.m. at Santa Barbara City College La Playa Stadium on Shoreline Drive.

Donations will be accepted and people can make contributions to the American Red Cross or Direct Relief International.

People are being encouraged to wear red and white clothing because organizers plan to ask those who attend to form a huge heart.
