Fillmore district schools except Piru set to reopen
Superintendent Mario Contini said special arrangements have been made for students who are still cut off by road closures resulting from flooding and landslides. He said state officials don't expect Highway 126 to fully reopen until the month is nearly over.
"This is just a catastrophic event," he said Wednesday.
Contini said all students should report to their regular schools today except those who live in Piru, Rancho Sespe or east of Hopper Canyon. These students will receive phone calls with instructions about where and when to report to school.
Piru School will continue to be closed today and Friday.
Students who live in Fillmore but attend Piru School will also receive phone calls about where to report to school today.
Contini said all buses will run except those serving Bardsdale, Grimes Canyon, Guiberson Road, South Mountain Road, Rancho Sespe and Highway 126 from Highway 23 in Fillmore to Interstate 5.
Although an elementary school is located in Piru, students in those areas attend middle and high school in Fillmore. An independent study program is being established for students from grades seven through 12 who are cut off from Fillmore Middle School and Fillmore High School.
