Kathy Lofthouse

Kathy Lofhouse and her husband, Duncan, came to California from England in 1981. They live in Thousand Oaks with their daughter, Clair and four dogs.

As a child Kathy's favorite sport was show jumping so she built a course of jumps for her next-door-neighbors' German Shepherd Dog, Rex in her back garden. The sport of Agility had yet to be invented, but Kathy was already enjoying the concept!

Kathy has trained dogs through Open Level Obedience and beginning Schutzhund tracking, but it was the sport of Dog Agility that was destined to capture her interest. In 1988 Kathy and other dog trainers began providing demonstrations and clinics to get more people involved in the sport. Soon the United States Dog Agility Association's first Southern California Regional Qualifier for the Pedigree Grand Prix of Dog Agility was held in Woodland Hills and growing interest in Agility led to the formation of Southern California's first Agility club, West Valley DogSports.

Kathy has continued to be involved Agility and has competed in the AKC, USDAA, NADAC and UKC Agility programs. She has trained and handled eight dogs to Agility titles and has provided training help to many others. She has been a finalist in the highly competitive USDAA Grand Prix of Dog Agility with four different dogs.
