'Sideways' contest

Want to test your knowledge both of the new movie "Sideways" and the Santa Ynez Valley wine country that is its setting? We've devised this trivia contest using locations from the movie -- and dinner for two at the Hitching Post II restaurant in Buellton is riding on the correct answers. (Owner Frank Ostini says he'll even throw in a bottle of his Hitching Post Highliner pinot noir, which also "stars" in the film.)

Some of the questions can be answered by seeing the movie. Others may require a self-guided day trip using the numbered map shown here. Please avoid the temptation simply to call for the information: You'll annoy the folks who answer the phones and cheat yourself out some fun.

6. Sanford Winery & Vineyards

Growing at the entrance to the gravel driveway is a drought-tolerant plant that produces edible fruit. Name or describe the plant.

14. Ostrich Land

You're welcome to photograph the birds, especially after contributing a little something to their upkeep. Donations go into a white metal mail box with the word "----" written on the side.

9. Los Olivos Cafe

Before their dinner date with Maya and Stephanie, Miles warns Jack, "If anyone orders merlot, I'm leaving." Name one of the Santa Barbara County merlots available by the glass from the cafe's wine list.

3. Firestone Vineyard

Kate Firestone is shown curtsying to which member of the British royal family in a black-and-white photograph hanging on the wall next to the "restrooms" sign in the lobby?

The winery that Daniel Boone built is the body-double for which fictional tasting room, gift shop and tour-bus stop depicted in the movie "Sideways"'
