  • Fess Parker Winery & Vineyard, 6200 Foxen Canyon Road, Los Olivos. Miles makes a desperate grab for the tasting-room dump bucket.

  • Firestone Vineyard, 5000 Zaca Station Road, Los Olivos. While on a double date, Miles and Maya and Jack and Stephanie sneak out of a tasting-room lecture for some wine talk and a little smooching among the barrels. Firestone also is the uncredited setting for an earlier scene in which Miles runs down a hillside with an open bottle of wine.

  • Foxen Vineyard, 7200 Foxen Canyon Road, Santa Maria. When the tasting-room pourer turns her back for a second, Miles and Jack top off their glasses with Foxen's pinot noir.

  • Kalyra Winery, 343 N. Refugio Road, Santa Ynez. A sassy pourer named Stephanie leads Jack and Miles through tastings of Kalyra's chardonnay, syrah and cabernet franc (the latter described as "from our vineyards in Santa Maria") before agreeing to join them for dinner.

  • Sanford Winery & Vineyards, 7250 Santa Rosa Road, Buellton. Miles and Jack start their week of wine in Sanford's dairy barn turned tasting room, where Miles discovers olfactory hints of "asparagus and a flutter of, like, a nutty Edam cheese"in a glass of pinot noir vin gris.

RESTAURANTS

  • AJSpurs, 350 E. Highway 246, Buellton. Too embarrassed to return to the Hitching Post II, Miles and Jack dine at this restaurant decorated with wagon wheels and animal heads. The waitress recognizes Jack from his days as an actor on her favorite soap opera.

  • The Hitching Post II, 406 E. Highway 246, Buellton. Jack and Miles meet up with Maya, the wine-savvy waitress and horticulture student on whom Miles has a crush.

  • Los Olivos Cafe, 2879 Grand Ave., Los Olivos. Jack, Miles, Maya and Stephanie enjoy dinner with a sauvignon blanc from Fiddlehead Cellars and pinot noirs from Whitcraft Winery and Sea Smoke Cellars. Then Miles spoils the mood by making a drunken phone call to his ex-wife.

  • Solvang Restaurant, 1672 Copenhagen Drive, Solvang. Jack and Miles have breakfast -- and an argument -- in one of the restaurant's carved wooden booths before taking a drive through the vineyards.

OTHER SITES

  • Gaviota State Park, Highway 101 about 30 miles north of Santa Barbara. After getting some bad news, Miles drives to the beach to stare at the ocean.

  • Lompoc Farmers Market, Ocean Avenue and H Street, Lompoc. Miles courts Maya while shopping for fresh veggies at the weekday market.

  • Ocean Lanes, 1420 E. Ocean Ave., Lompoc. Stephanie introduces Jack and Miles to her adoptive mother during an outing to the bowling alley.

  • Ostrich Land, 610 E. Highway 246, Buellton. The resident birds make humorous cameos during a montage of Santa Ynez Valley locations. Later, Jack refers to having to run naked through the ostrich field to escape the angry husband of a one-night stand.

  • River Course at The Alisal, 150 Alisal Road, Solvang. Jack and Miles encounter an impatient foursome of fellow golfers on this 18-hole course surrounded by oak trees and vineyards. Jack responds by chasing them off with his clubs.

  • Days Inn Windmill, 114 E. Highway 246, Buellton. The buddies share Room 234 at this hotel, where the lobby is a windmill. Also on site is the hot tub where Miles grades English papers and the lounge where he retreats after catching Jack and Stephanie in flagrante delicto.
