T. Oaks students pack lunches for firefighters
"We wanted to feed the firemen who were actually out there, protecting homes, working on the line, who might not see a meal for 12 hours," said Dawn Stines, a parent who organized the effort.
The idea was to feed firefighters battling the Simi Valley fire. But it turned out that firefighters in San Bernardino County needed the food more. So people working at the East Valley Sheriff's Station loaded up the lunches in an SUV and took them out to Norton Air Force Base, where firefighters were staging, said Keith Parks, chief of police for Thousand Oaks.
"It was just an amazing gesture," Parks said, "And it went to the people who needed it most that day."
