Rachel Ray quick facts
TRADEMARK MOVES: Referring to extra-virgin olive oil as "EVOh-Oh" on the show because it takes less time. Eyeballing rather than measuring tablespoon and cup amounts on "30 Minute Meals." Liking everything she eats (or at least is shown eating) while traveling around the world on "$40 a Day."
FIRST MEAL SHE PREPARED FOR SOMEONE ELSE: At 11, Ray treated her mom to "rolled" lasagna stuffed with fresh asparagus and served with a gorgonzola cheese sauce. Ray also recalls whipping up either a mimosa or Champagne cocktail to complement the meal. "She loves Champagne," Ray says of her mother. "Everyone calls her the Champagne lady."
KITCHEN DOODAD SHE CAN'T DO WITHOUT: No such thing. Ray says she doesn't have the storage space and, besides, the annoyance of stopping to look for a special tool far outweighs its potential usefulness. However, she does admit that "a food processor makes it a heck of a lot easier to make pesto. And I love my Wusthof knife."
PHILOSOPHY ABOUT FOOD: Some people have scrapbooks; Ray uses food to recall her memories. "When I make my grandpa's recipe for stuffed artichokes, it makes me feel closer to my family," she say.
