Ice Cream
Sometimes, that generic supermarket brand just doesn't cut it. Even Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's can't compare to the real thing--rich, fresh, homemade ice cream.
When making ice cream at home, ice cream machines with self-contained electric freezers are essential for maximum efficiency and quality. You'll also need a tall, heavy saucepan that prevents scorching and a fine-mesh strainer to keep your ice cream as smooth as possible.
For those who like something on the lighter side, sorbets and granitas--both mixtures of pureed fruit, sugar and water--will keep you cool without the dairy (and the fat). Because they're usually processed in an ice cream maker, sorbets have a smoother texture. Granitas don't require any special equipment beyond a refrigerator freezer, but they must be stirred occasionally during freezing to create coarse ice crystals--hence their name, which derives from the Italian word for "grain."

cream fixings. You're sure to be screaming for more.
