Sanchez might soon enter plea in rapes

More from Other News"There is an outside possibility of pleas being entered," Chief Deputy Public Defender Neil Quinn said.
The 30-year-old Simi Valley handyman had been scheduled to enter a plea Wednesday in response to a Ventura County Grand Jury indictment, but the arraignment was taken off the court calendar Monday and continued to Sept. 25, Quinn said.
The 34-page indictment charged him with sexually assaulting or attempting to sexually assault 14 women from Sept. 2, 1996, to July 9 of this year.
It also accused Sanchez of murdering Megan Barroso, 20, of Moorpark. The murder charge makes him eligible for the death penalty.
Quinn has said his client will plead not guilty to the murder charge.
The indictment was unsealed Sept. 4.
Barroso was last seen at 2:45 a.m. leaving a friend's house in Newbury Park on July 5. Her abandoned car was found 70 minutes later, straddling a cement divider underneath a Highway 23 overpass. The engine was running, and bullets had pierced the passenger side of her car.
Her body was discovered one month later at the bottom of a rocky ravine south of Simi Valley. Authorities said she died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
